We can’t wait for the El Gordo de Navidad Draw
The clock is counting down to the 2021 El Gordo de Navidad draw. There is prize money of €2.408 billion. With that high a prize fund, it’s no surprise there is so much interest in the draw that was first held in 1812.
The build-up to draw is a long one. July 8 saw the summer campaign begin, letting everyone know a very important message. Namely, that tickets were already on sale. The campaign included “very traditional scenes” of people enjoying themselves on the beach and buying an ice-cream. Not very Christmassy to be fair.
A major feature of the campaign was a mobile voice assistant. Everyone has questions they need it to give answers too. It can answer almost anything apart from when the El Gordo de Navidad draw takes place.
Lots of winners
172 million tickets will be available for the El Gordo de Navidad draw. They are sold in 172 series of 100,000 numbers each with tickets sold in tenths. Of the €3.44 billion sales expected, 70% goes into the prize fund. The first prize doesn’t see one or a few winners sharing a prize worth millions of euros.
Instead, the first prize is €4 million and if you hold a tenth, that wins you €400,000 Second prize is €125,000 per tenth and third is €50,000 per tenth.
It’s not just Spain (where players on average spend €60 on tickets) who are fascinated with this lottery. You can buy your El Gordo de Navidad tickets at Lottery24 right now.
Last year was of course a difficult one due to the pandemic. Ticket sales for the El Gordo de Navidad fell by 11% compared to the previous year. That was caused by lockdowns and not holding Christmas lunches, where it is a tradition to buy tenths.
There were still massive sales all over Spain. Madrid sold over 453 million tenths with Andalusia selling 357 million. The average amount spent by players in Castilla y León with a figure of €84.62 2021 promises to see sales rising again with players dreaming of that big win on December 22.
