Will You Win the  El Niño Jackpot on January 6?

While many are still celebrating their El Gordo de Navidad wins, attention now turns to the El Niño draw on January 6, 2023. Will a ticket bought at Lottery24 win a share of the €700 million prize fund?

Spain really does love their traditional lottery draws. The first ever draw was held way back in 1879. It had a great reason to be held as funds raised were given to the Children’s Hospital of the Child Jesus in Madrid. It wasn’t until 1941 that the decision was made to rename the draw, the El Niño.

Special day

Just why is the El Niño draw held on January 6? There’s a very special religious reason for this date. You see, that’s when the belief is that it was on this date that the long trip the Three Kings had undertaken concluded with them arriving in Bethlehem to visit the baby Jesus.

The English translation of El Niño is ‘The Child’ and January 6 is when the Three Kings were finally able to give their gifts to Jesus.

Those of you who bought some tickets for the El Gordo de Navidad will know that these Spanish lotteries are run a little bit differently. Like the December 22 draw, the El Niño uses multiple drums and inside them are 50 series, each containing 100,000 tickets.

They’re numbered between 00000 and 99999 and each of the numbers has 50 copies which are then split up into tenths. The top prize is €2 million and if you own five of the 10 shares you will win €1m.

As with most lotteries, players have special numbers for choosing their numbers. Some play the same number for many years. That’s what the Confraternity of El Santo Sepulcro of Torrent did in 2017.

Long wait

For 34 years they’d been using the same numbers and their selection won them a share of the El Niño jackpot that year.

Will the New Year get off to the best possible start with a big win in the El Niño draw?
