Halloween proved to be anything but a horror as two tickets sold in Alameda and Los Angeles County both won $1m in the Mega Millions draw held on Friday October 31.
The winning Mega Millions lottery ticket was sold in Alameda at the Maitland Market located at 109 Maitland Drive but has yet to be redeemed. The lucky ticket in Los Angeles County was sold at a liquor store. After taxes have been paid both Mega Millions tickets will see the lottery winners receiving $604,409 according to lottery officials.
Their lottery winnings could have been a lot more though if they’d been able to match the Mega Ball. The jackpot in the Mega Millions draw on Friday October 31 was a massive $248m. The winning numbers in the draw were: 67-11-58-36-29 and the Mega Ball: 15.
With the top prize going unclaimed it means the Mega Millions lottery jackpot for the draw scheduled to be held on Tuesday November 4 has gone through the $300m mark. It’s only the 10th time in Mega Millions history that this has occurred. If anyone is able to match the five main balls and the Mega Ball they’ll win a staggering $321m jackpot, the 8th highest in the history of the game.
If just one lucky ticket was to win the Mega Millions lottery draw on Tuesday, it’d be by far the most ever won by a single ticket. That record currently stands at $319 won by a ticket purchased by a syndicate of seven players in Albany. They worked for the state Division of Housing and Community Renewal and purchased their winning ticket from a convenience store less than a block from their workplace.
The highest ever Mega Millions jackpot was the $656m that was up for grabs in March 2012 but that was shared by three tickets sold in Illinois, Kansas and Maryland. Amazingly sales for that draw were estimated at around $1.5b. The cash option for that historic draw was $474m.
There were a total of five tickets that were able to match the five main balls and Mega Ball in the Mega Millions draw held on October 31.
