How quickly do you check your lottery tickets? Some players like to wait as long as possible to keep alive their dreams of a big win. Well that’s what Michael and Sheila Yeomans from Folkestone in England did and they’re celebrating now after winning £315.219.50 in the December 2 EuroMillions draw.

Michael, 59, who works as a delivery driver, took two days to check his ticket for the December 2 EuroMillions draw explaining: “I don’t tend to check my tickets straight away; I like to keep that ‘I could be a winner’ excitement going for just a bit longer. On this occasion I waited until Thursday when I checked the numbers on the TV.”

His first line drew a blank but the second managed to match the five main numbers and one of the Lucky Stars. The winning numbers in the December 2 EuroMillions draw were: 03-15-25-44-49 with the Lucky Stars 01 and 09. Michael couldn’t believe his eyes and neither could his wife. They quickly called their eldest son, Damian to come round to help them.

He thought he was going to be helping them with their computer, not confirm a £300,000 EuroMillions win. Michael added: “While Damian was whooping about with joy we just sat there in shock like lemons. I have to say, we’ve been a bit like that ever since!”

The lucky winner spent the next couple of days walking around Folkestone with his winning EuroMillions ticket in his wallet before his win was finally confirmed. Michael said that he’ll be “eternally grateful to Lady Luck for this whopper of an early Christmas present” but isn’t planning on “frittering it away.”

Most of their EuroMillions winnings will be invested and spent on home improvements. A first trip abroad for Michael is planned with Sheila, who works as a support worker for children with learning difficulties, and is keen to visit Canada as well as buying a dog.

They don’t plan on splashing out too much of their EuroMillions win on Christmas but with four children and eleven grand-children that might not be quite so easy a promise to keep.
