EUROMILLIONS WINNER ACCUSED OF BEING BEDS IN SHEDS LANDLORD

George Traykov had two big lottery wins totalling more than £1.1m playing EuroMillions but now he faces legal action as Hounslow council crack down on ‘beds in sheds’ landlords.

Traykov won £1m playing EuroMillions in 2011 and then two years later won another £160,000 but the self-styled “money-magnet” is now being investigated for allegedly renting out unauthorised dwellings. The council claim that the outbuilding, which has a kitchen and central heating, was among a number of beds in sheds being rented out for up to £200 a week.

Last week council officers raided his £290,000 single-storey property in Shakespeare Road, Feltham and have now obtained a demolition order for his illegal backyard cabin. EuroMillions lottery winner Traykov, who is a former member of the Bulgarian skydiving team, has lived in the UK for about 20 years. Last year Harrow Council took out an order stopping him using a shed as a residential dwelling.

He currently lives in a £350,000 home in Ilford with his 20-year-old fiancée Emilia Vazheva. Speaking about last week’s raid, the EuroMillions lottery winner said: “My relatives are living in the house while it is being renovated. They are not paying rent. The outbuilding has been there since I bought it. This is not a living area where people live and sleep. I had parties there, I had gatherings there, it is a playroom. I use it for storage. “The council assumes something and they raid the property. No one has come to me to ask me.”

Neighbours of the house in Hounslow have regularly complained about Eastern European immigrants living in the shed and the most recent occupants were a couple with a young child. One neighbour said: “We all have big sheds around here, but they don’t have kitchens or chimneys. This is just wrong.”

Steve Curran, Leader of Hounslow council, said: “We will be remorseless in our war on rogue landlords who are exploiting some of the most vulnerable people in London.” Last week’s raids follow similar ones in December that discovered up to 40 illegally converted beds in sheds, housing over 70 tenants — including four suspected illegal immigrants.
