Fresno resident wins Mega Millions prize

A lottery player living in Fresno, California, has won a huge $3.4 million on the Mega Millions lottery this weekend, after they matched five of six numbers in the draw held on February 13th.

The winning lottery ticket was announced by officials to have been sold in Coalinga, at a store named Ice Bucket / Chevron on West Elm Street. The ticket in question matched five out of the winning six numbers in Friday night’s Mega Millions draw.

According to California lottery officials, the owner of the ticket has not yet come forward to claim their prize, but that does not stop locals and the store owners from celebrating the fact that one of their own has become a lottery millionaire. The owners of the Ice Bucket store which sold the Mega Millions ticket were greeted by California lottery officials first thing on Saturday morning, along with a cheque for $17,000, which represents 0.5% of the winning amount.

This cheque is a bonus for the retailers from lottery officials, to say thank you for selling the winning Mega Millions ticket, and because the prize is not pulled from the ticket holder’s bounty, the retailer did not have to wait for the winner to come forward before they could enjoy their own prize money. The store is family run, and owned by two couples: Gerard and Gail Filipe, and Larry and Andrea Filipe.

This is the third time that the store has sold a lottery ticket that is worth millions, but Gerard Filipe said that there is still a buzz about the store after this latest Mega Millions win. “Everyone is excited,” he said. “We’ve got a pretty good buzz around our little small town.”

Gerard said that he has also previously owned a liquor store which sold two big winning lottery tickets in the past, and so he feels blessed to say that his stores have had some luck. The store owners plan to use their $17,000 bonus from the Mega Millions lottery to maintain their business, as well as give their employees a bonus to say thank you for their hard work.

Mr Filipe said that he hopes the winner comes forward soon and that “everything goes well for them. “
