57-year-old Anita Reid from Blantyre in Scotland is heading for New York after winning £186,128.50 in the EuroMillions draw held on April 28. The winner has never been abroad and doesn’t even have a passport.
Anita has two chiildren, Cheryl, 33 and Robert, 30 and works as a home carer for South Lanarkshire council. The winner said she couldn’t believe her luck when her numbers came up in the EuroMillions draw. “I sat in the living room and checked my numbers on Teletext as usual, to see whether I’d won anything. I thought ‘oh I’ve got one number, oh two, then three, four, five and a Lucky Star number’… I couldn’t believe it.”
The lucky EuroMillions winner ran to wake up her husband, Robert, 48, to tell him the amazing news. She was in such a rush that he thought the house was on fire. Once he’d realized what was really happening he double-checked the EuroMillions numbers and they really had matched the five main numbers and a Lucky Star.
The jubilant couple then phoned the National Lottery and their EuroMillions win was confirmed. “We were in such a daze – the first thing we did was have a cold glass of Diet Coke to celebrate!” said Anita.
Last month we reported on John Osborne who won £1.5m playing UK Lotto and plans on using his lottery winnings to go travelling. Anita and her husband have the same idea: “Neither of us has ever been abroad, we actually don’t even have passports, so I think a long overdue trip to New York is on the cards. Robert has always wanted to go – I’m so happy that I can treat the both of us” said Reid. She also plans on using her EuroMillions winnings to pay off her mortgage and buy a new car.
The jubilant EuroMillions winner is a regular player and buys three Lucky Dips every Tuesday. She purchased her winning EuroMillions ticket from the Scotmid in Stonefield Road, Blantyre. The winning numbers in the Tuesday April 28 EuroMillions draw were: 24-26-28-36-45 with the two Lucky Stars 07 and 10.
