After 23 years on her feet, Nabilia Batarseh from Calgary in Canada is planning to eventually retire after winning $12.5m in the Lotto Max draw held on June 5.
Bataresh was at home playing cards with her family but it was the lottery where her luck was in. She decided to check her Lotto Max numbers on her phone and it revealed her ticket was a jackpot winner.
Most players start screaming or shaking when they find out about their big win but not Nabila who said: “It’s funny to say, but I felt normal when I discovered I won.” Perhaps it wasn’t such a big surprise as the lucky winner revealed that she’d always believed one day a big lottery win would come her way. “I always had a feeling it would happen to me,” she said. That’s just likeMary Ann Estanislao from Edmonton who won a $15m Lotto Max jackpot last October.
Bataresh was one of four winners who split the $50m jackpot. The other are lottery winner Eddie Mushibuka from Ontario and Lotto Max player Lisa Maria Draganiuk from British Columbia whose wins we reported last week. The winning numbers in the draw were: 02-10-13-16-30-33-48. Her winning ticket was purchased from a 7-Eleven store on Crowfoot Way, N.W.
Nabila is the latest big Lotto Max winner in Canada after Lester Hillier and Barbara Thomas won big on the Lotto Max, while Windsor and Brittany Powell won $1m on the same lottery in May.
A lot of players underestimate the size of their lottery win, but not this one. Initially the lucky winner thought she’d won the full $50m jackpot but she’s “kind of happy” her win was only a quarter of that amount. “Fifty million dollars is a lot of money for one person. I was almost relieved to find out it was going to be shared.”
The lucky winner plans on using her Lotto Max winnings to buy a “good house” and also help other people. Eventually she plans on retiring. Nabila said: “I’ve spent 23 years on my feet, it’s time to retire.”
