ANOTHER NEW ZEALAND LOTTO RETAILER CLAIMS LUCKIEST STORE TITLE

Just last week we told you about a lottery store in Hastings, New Zealand, which was declared to be the country’s luckiest store, but now that title may have a contender.

After selling a ticket worth $8 million for the New Zealand Powerball, the Hastings store was keeping up its claim to the luckiest store in the country, but now a shop in Greerton which has sold its second multi-million dollar prize in the space of seven months is laying claim to that title. Seven months ago a couple from Greerton purchased their winning $4.5 million ticket at the Greerton Lotto store, and this weekend another winning ticket was revealed to have been purchased in the same place – this time a $5 million Powerball jackpot ticket.

The ticket has not yet been claimed, but store owner Belinda Sands told local press in New Zealand that she has big hopes that the winner will come back to her store on Cameron Road to claim their prize. “We’ve never sold a winning Powerball up until this year and now we’ve had two,” Ms Sands told the press as she revealed that when she found out she’d sold another winning ticket she was dancing up and down the hallway of her house. Along with lucky stores, New Zealand Powerball officials also recently revealed some of the luckiest lottery numbers so far this year in a bid to encourage more players to try their hand at the game.

Buzzing from the news, she continued to say that selling winners is one of the greatest things about her job, “it’s what makes the job, especially to have a run like this with two Powerball wins.” The store owner says that she can’t wait until the winner comes in to share the excitement; “I can be discreet… But I usually cry to be honest.”

Ms Sands said that she loves the idea of having a part in changing somebody’s life forever, just like a $5 million lottery win did for a couple from Nelson, and that she hopes it is one of her regular customers who lays claim to the winning Powerball ticket. Her store, which is now as lucky as another lottery store just across the ocean in Australia, is quite a community hub: “I’d say we’ve got a thousand regular customers that come in every week,” she said. “We have a really loyal customer base, it’s amazing. Our customers are friends because I’ve been there so long and my partner is from Greerton originally.”
