A lottery player from Maryland who suffered through a visit to the dentist got his reward afterwards as he won $50,000 on the Powerball.

The Maryland Lottery player told officials that he visited his dentist last week, and after leaving the office he decided to treat himself to a ticket for the November 8th Powerball drawing. A Canadian Lotto 649 winner had to go to a dentist appointment straight after discovering a $5 million win. The Maryland winner, who works for the federal government, bought his quick pick Powerball ticket from BK Miller’s Meats & Liquors store in Clinton, but didn’t watch the drawing despite it taking place that evening. A People’s Postcode Lottery winner from England headed straight to the dentist to get some work done after winning £25,000.

For a few days, the government worker was the only Maryland lottery player to win a $50,000 Powerball prize in that drawing, but he had no idea until he went back to the lottery retailer. When he scanned his Powerball ticket into the self-scan ticket checker, the message that flashed up on the screen said, “Cash at Lottery,” which the lucky player said left his scratching his head. A grandmother from New York was grateful for her hairdresser running late when she spent her waiting time winning $7 million on the lottery.

“I scanned it again and it said the same thing,” the father of two said, continuing that he called out to one of the store’s employees and asked for help. Fortunately, the staff member was also a friend of his, and when they printed off the winning numbers to check against his ticket, they were quite happy to announce: “Hey, man you won $50,000!” Recently a $50,000 Powerball winner from Maryland planned to donate his winnings to the children’s hospital.

Now, the 54-year-old Powerball winner has told lottery officials that he remained calm as he went home and broke the news to his wife, before claiming the prize in Baltimore. They plan to spend their winnings on a cruise with their adult children, where they will break the news of their lottery win to them, as well as paying off some bills and home improvements. Another Powerball winner from Maryland planned to take his family on a cruise after winning $100,000.
