BILBAO CELEBRATES EL NIÑO SUCCESS

It’s been a busy and prosperous few days for lottery players around the world. Friday night saw a $450m Mega Millions jackpot won and just 24 hours later it was the historic El Niño draw in Spain and it proved to be great news for players in Bilbao.

The first prize in the El Niño draw went to ticket number 05685. The draw had a prize fund of around €700m and that lucky number paid out €2m for each series and €200,000 per tenth. The draw proved to be fantastic news for those living in Bilbao as for the second year in a row, the first prize in the El Niño draw went to one place rather than being distributed around the country of Spain. Last year it was the Confraternity of El Santo Sepulcro of Torrent (Valencia) who scooped the El Niño top prize.

Bilbao is no stranger to success in the El Niño draw and ranks only third in terms of winners behind Madrid and Barcelona. The tickets with the winning number were sold at the lottery administration number 19 of Bilbao, located on the Avenue Lehendakari Agirre of Deusto, a district of Bilbao.

Juan Elejade is the oldest of the three brothers that owns that El Niño winning lottery administration. Speaking of his joy at this fantastic news he said, “I told my wife yesterday while we were preparing the gifts of The Three Kings, tomorrow we will win the top prize on the El Niño lottery.” Little did he know that the following day he’d receive a call from the official lottery administration that they had sold the top prize-winning tickets in the El Niño draw.

The second prize in the El Niño draw went to the number 18.442 and that saw windfalls of €750,000 for each of the 50 series that were lucky enough to have that number. Areas that have been successful include Almeria who often have success at this time of the year. In 2016, the area won the top prize of €630m in that year’s El Niño draw. That win came just weeks after Almeria also won an El Gordo de Navidad top prize.

Other second-prize winning areas in the El Niño draw included Alava, Asturias, Badajoz, Barcelona, Burgos, Cádiz, Ciudad Real, Córdoba, Coruña, Guipúzcoa, Granada, Huelva, Jaén, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Lugo, Madrid, Murcia, Navarra, Pontevedra, Tenerife and Zaragoza.

The third prize of the El Niño draw went to number 23282 and was sold in Yecla, in the province of Murcia.
