The mystery of who won a $15 million Oz Lotto jackpot in the town on Townsville, Queensland, Australia, has been solved as the winner came forward.

Earlier this week, Golden Casket, who run the lottery in the state of Queensland, announced that a lottery player win Townsville had woken up to a $15 million Oz Lotto jackpot. The mystery winner was one of only two jackpot winners in the Oz Lotto drawing on Tuesday, March 6th, and shared the $30 million prize with one other player across the country. Last year we told you about a $50 million Oz Lotto jackpot which had been shared across Australia, as well as another Queensland winner who was in disbelief after discovering her winning Oz Lotto ticket.

When the lottery first released details of the win, the lucky winner had not yet revealed their identity or claimed their prize, despite their being a registered lottery player and holding an Australian Winners Circle card, which means that lottery officials contact them if they win. However, it is the Oz Lotto player’s prerogative to decide when, if ever, to reveal their identity to the press, and all the lottery was able to reveal was that the winner purchased their ticket from a new agency called newsXpress Garbutt Centre on Ingham Road, Garbutt. We have previously told you about a Oz Lotto winner from South Australia who remained a mystery for some time after winning $15 million.

The winner has now revealed herself as Townsville’s newest millionaire, telling lottery officials that she’s never been a lucky person and has always worked hard. She told lottery officials that it was due to news reports of a local winner that she checked her tickets to see if it was her.

“Oh god, that was just a Quick Pick,” the winner exclaimed down the phone as lottery officials confirmed her win. “I’ve got to get up off the floor. It’s a shock. It’s a big amount.” A woman from Virginia said that she fell to the floor after winning $1 million on a scratch card.

Even though the Townsville Oz Lotto winner said that news hasn’t sunk in yet, she said that the windfall has come at a good time, and that she’ll be able to set her family up for the future. A lucky lottery player from Florida in the USA put most of his $328 million Powerball winnings towards his family futures, according to a neighbour.
