A woman from Cork in Ireland, decided to buy an extra line for the March 24 Irish Lotto draw. That proved to be the best decision she’s ever made as the lucky player won the €5.6m jackpot.
The Irish Lotto winner has asked to remain anonymous as she has young children and is worried about what would happen if her name was revealed. Recently in New Hampshire, USA, a judge ruled a $559.7m Powerball jackpot winner could keep her identity safe.
Her Irish Lotto win really was a lucky one as the woman only bought her winning ticket from the Centra shop in Crosshaven, Cork, while on her way to delivering Easter Eggs to her mother-in-law. She said: “There were so many happy coincidences which have led us to this win, it’s just incredible when you think about it ”
Usually the Irish woman only buys two lines for the Irish Lotto draw but this time she added a third. “When I got to the till, something told me to buy an extra line and of course that was the lucky line which won us the €5.6 million. Somebody was definitely looking after me that day.” Her winning numbers in the March 24 Irish Lotto draw were 02-17-24-25-35-40. In Canada, a syndicate chose to double their stake and won a $60m Lotto Max jackpot.
Now her mother-in-law keeps taking all the credit for the Irish Lotto win, a bit like the father of Irish woman Kerry McGowen who had her €112,469 winning Irish Lotto ticket bought for her by her father.
The family want to take time to decide how to spend their winnings but intend to carry on working and live their lives as usual. The winner of a €4.4m Irish Lotto jackpot in January also pledged to not quit his job.
The news of their Irish Lotto jackpot win came at 9.30 on the evening of the draw. The family were relaxing at home and then her husband scanned their Irish Lotto ticket on the National Lottery app and she says “that’s when the madness started. ” The following night a big party was held at a local pub. The husband and wife didn’t attend but other members of the family were there to celebrate.
It’s the latest big win in the area after a Co. Cork syndicate won €3.8m playing the Irish Lotto draw.
