A grandfather from Fairfield in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, has won a huge $1.4 million Keno jackpot while he was out at a family dinner to say farewell to his grandson.

The 64-year-old lottery winner said that he purchased his ticket just before leaving the Canley Heights RSL Club last Friday night. He said that he handed the Keno ticket to his grandson and told him “Anything small you have it, anything big, it’s mine,” but little did he know that there would be something quite big indeed. Last year an Australian Powerball jackpot went to an anonymous player from Sydney who shared the $30 million with a 25-person syndicate.

The manager of the club was soon chasing the family across the car park, shouting them to come back inside because the Keno ticket had actually won the 10-number jackpot and was worth $1,354,206. “I’m over the moon,” the lucky grandfather said. “I’m happy as a pig in mud.” Another New South Wales grandfather won a big Australian Powerball jackpot, but it took him 13 months to claim his $1.02 million lottery prize.

The winner said that even a week on, he is still trying to get his head around the multitude of his win, “When I bought it, I thought ‘it would be good to win something for him to go away with’. I never dreamt it would be the big one.” A man from Sutherland Shire in Sydney recently won $5.6 million on the Keno but said he wouldn’t be quitting work.

However, the grandfather admitted that he is a big fan of the Keno lottery, and he plans to photocopy his winning ticket and put it in a frame to remind himself of the win that changed his life. A UK Lotto winner who took home £7.5 million had his winning numbers inscribed into the bottom of his swimming pool as a reminder.

Now that the almost $1.4 million prize is in his account, the 64-year-old, who currently rents a one-bedroom house, is planning to buy his own home, and he’ll give a generous amount as a going away present to his grandson. A Nova Scotia, Canada, couple who won $1.75 million on the Canadian Lotto 649 planned to spoil their grandchildren after their birthdates won them the jackpot.

The Keno winner also hopes to buy a vehicle which will allow him to spend time holidaying up on the Central Coast of Australia.
