A syndicate of shop workers from Tipperary in Ireland have won a huge €17 million EuroMillions jackpot last week.
The group won the jackpot in the EuroMillions drawing on Tuesday, June 5th, when their ticket matched numbers 9, 15, 22, 39 and 46 as well as both Lucky Stars 4 and 5. After the drawing took place, Irish EuroMillions officials confirmed that a single ticket in Ireland had won the jackpot, but now we can reveal the exact whereabouts of that sale.
The ticket was purchased in Thurles, Co Tipperary, where the syndicate members are from, as they all work at Stakelum’s Hardware store in Thurles. A EuroMillions spokesperson said that arrangements were being made for the group of winners to claim their €17 million prize together in the next few days. Earlier this year we told you about another syndicate from Tipperary who claimed a €250,000 Irish Lotto Plus 2 prize, while a few years ago a syndicate of colleagues from a hardware store in Canada shared a Lotto Max jackpot worth $55 million.
The syndicate includes 32 people all of whom work or worked at the Stakelum’s store, with a spokesperson for the winning group saying that all 32 members are shocked and delighted with the news. “We are all in shock but absolutely delighted and it is great to see this massive amount of money shared with so many colleagues.”
Each of the lottery syndicate members will receive more than half a million euros thanks to the EuroMillions win, and the spokesperson called it “a lovely amount of money.” The 32 colleagues are letting the news of their fortune sink in before they attend Lotto HQ in Dublin to claim their prize. A family syndicate from Dublin took a while to claim their Irish Lotto prize, while one of the members kept the ticket safe in her sports bra.
The store which sold the winning ticket, Eason in Thurles Shopping Centre, sold another Irish Lotto winning ticket just eight months ago, that one worth €7.5 million. We’ve previously told you about other lucky stores in Ireland, including one in Co. Laois which sold a winning scratch card just a year after selling a winning EuroMillions ticket, and a store manager from Co. Dublin who sold a winning Irish Lotto ticket after selling another winner in a different store.
“We are only recovering after selling a €7.5 million Lotto jackpot winning ticket last October,” said a spokesperson for the store. “Never in our wildest dreams did we imagine we would be selling a €17 million EuroMillions ticket so soon after.”
