IRISH LOTTO SYNDICATE LEADER KEPT WINNING €4.3 MILLION TICKET IN A PLASTIC BAG

The leader of a syndicate which won €4.3 million on the Irish Lotto has revealed that the winning ticket was kept in a plastic bag for five days.

The lottery syndicate of two friends, from Limerick in Ireland, where a player celebrated their €5.8 million Irish Lotto jackpot win last Christmas, won their €4.3 million Lotto jackpot after their ticket, purchased from Whitty’s Mace supermarket in Caherdavin, Co Limerick, matched the winning numbers 1, 7, 10, 17, 35 and 37 plus bonus number 43 in the drawing last weekend. “I was so nervous about anything happening to the ticket,” the syndicate leader said as the group claimed their prize. “I didn’t sleep a wink on Saturday night after we found out we won.”

The winner added that during the night, he kept checking that the ticket was still in his bedside table, and the next morning put it in a plastic zip-lock bag to keep it safe. “I kept it in my pocket wherever I went, whether it was to work or the shops.” Five days isn’t quite as long as an Australian Powerball winning ticket which was kept in a plastic shopping bag for 13 months by a lucky lottery winning grandfather, while a Maryland woman left her winning Multi-Match ticket unchecked in her purse for a week.

Because the duo needed to get to Dublin to claim their Irish Lotto prize, the syndicate leader said that the plastic bag was a way of keeping it doubly safe. “In my mind this was a great way to be doubly sure that nothing could happen to the ticket before we got the chance to go to Dublin to claim.” A member of another Irish Lotto syndicate hid their winning ticket in her sports bra before they got chance to claim it.

The other syndicate member said that the Irish Lotto win is one of her dreams come true, and she had a message for other lottery players as she stood with her friends clutching the €4.3 million cheque. “Be careful what you dream about as you never know, it just might come true.” A Delaware, USA, woman said that her $15,000 lottery scratch card prize was also a dream come true.

The winner said that she’s dreamed about winning the Irish Lotto many times over the years, but she never really imagined that it would actually happen.
