SINGLE TICKET SOLD IN CALIFORNIA WINS $522M MEGA MILLIONS JACKPOT
A ticket sold in California, USA, managed to match the five main numbers and the Mega Ball to win the $522m Mega Millions jackpot in Tuesday’s draw.
The jackpot is the fifth highest in Mega Millions history and the lucky winner, who has yet to come forward, has a big decision to make about their fantastic win. They can either receive their win as an annuity paid with one initial payment followed by more annual payments over the next 29 years or they can accept a one-off payment of $308.1m.
Perhaps the Mega Millions jackpot will be shared just as happened with Eddie and Alejandro Trinidad also from California, USA, who won a $21.5m Mega Millions top prize last year.
The Mega Millions jackpot had been climbing and climbing since a $143m Mega Millions jackpot was won by a ticket sold in Ohio, USA, in May of this year. The winning Mega Millions ticket was sold at Ernie’s Liquors on South White in San Jose in California. The store is owned by Kewal Sachdev who hopes the Mega Millions jackpot winner “does a lot for charity, and maybe take care of all the family members and relatives around him or her.” Sachdev has reason to celebrate too as his store will receive $1m for selling the Mega Millions jackpot winning ticket.
The Mega Millions draw has been seeing some high jackpots this year. That’s mainly been the result of changes made to the Mega Millions draw towards the end of 2017.
It’s the latest big win in the state of California, USA, after Jack Freney landed a $191m Mega Millions jackpot. We recently told you how Kendra and Carl Skwarczynski from Orange County in southern California, won $5m on a Hit it Big scratch card.
The numbers drawn in Tuesday’s Mega Millions draw were: 01-02-04-19-29 and the Mega Ball 20. All of course ideal for using birthdays and anniversaries. As well as the $522m Mega Millions jackpot winner, there were eight tickets able to match the five main balls to become lottery millionaires. Those tickets were sold in Arizona, two each in Massachusetts and New Jersey and the others in Michigan, Minnesota and Texas. There were 102 third-tier winners compared to just 47 in the previous draw.
Last year a ticket sold in Michigan, USA, won a $393m Mega Millions jackpot. On Friday, the Mega Millions jackpot returns to $40m.
