The search has begun to find out just who won the €5.7m Irish Lotto jackpot in the draw held on Wednesday October 3. Staff at the store where the winning ticket was sold are hoping that a local person has scooped the Irish Lotto jackpot.

Wednesday’s Irish Lotto draw saw one ticket win the €5,781,732 jackpot. The six numbers the lucky Irish Lotto jackpot winner matched were: 01-15-22-27-31-34. The win takes the pay-outs by the National Lottery over the €50m mark for the calendar year.

The Irish Lotto winner hasn’t come forward yet, hopefully they won’t end up like the player in Leeds, England, who failed to claim a £1m winning UK Lotto prize.  We do know that the winning Irish Lotto ticket was purchased from the Spar Express at a Texaco service station on the Rathfarnham Road in Dublin. Perhaps the lucky winner is keeping their ticket safe in a plastic bag, which is just what the leader of a €4.3m Irish Lotto winning syndicate did.

Staff at the Spar Express hope that the Irish Lotto jackpot winning ticket was purchased by someone local. Just like in the USA, where New Yorker Michael Marks won $10m on a $10,000 a Week for Life scratchcard after buying tickets from the same store for over 50 years.

However, they said there was a possibility that the Irish Lotto ticket may have been bought by someone passing through. Store owner Fiona O’Connor said there was a huge buzz when discovering on Wednesday evening that they had sold the ticket that won the €5.7m Irish Lotto jackpot. It’s the first big win the store had had in the Irish Lotto draw, though recently they did sell a scratchcard that won its owner €25,000. A store in Donegal, Ireland went 28 years without selling any big winning Irish Lotto tickets.

“It’s fantastic, we’re here since 2007 and this is our first jackpot win,” Ms O’Connor said. “We don’t know if it’s a regular customer or someone just passing through, but it’s fantastic for whoever it is.” We do know that it’s not Sandra Neville who regularly buys Irish Lotto tickets from the store but forgot to get one for Wednesday’s draw. “I’m devastated I didn’t go in and do the Lotto,” she said. Joseph Ruiz from Kansas, USA, nearly forgot to get a ticket but finally remembered and won $10,000 playing Mega Millions.
