When she forgot to buy soap during a trip to the grocery store, a North Carolina woman headed back and bought a lottery ticket as well. Instead she cleaned up with a $200,000 scratch off win!
Doralee Preston-Price told lottery officials that while driving home she realised she’d forgotten to buy soap. She then decided to go to another nearby store instead. “They were closed, so instead I went back to Food Lion.”
After arriving back at her original grocery store, the winner bought some soap and a holiday themed scratch off ticket. She promptly put in her purse and forgot all about. It wasn’t until two days later that she remembered her ticket, along with a few others she’d bought before, and decided to scratch them off.
“I scratched the first ticket and didn’t win anything. I scratched this ticket and got through the first row but went back to watching a movie,” the lucky winner explained. “I almost threw the ticket away, but then something just said, ‘Look back down.’”
Fortunately, she did look back down and saw her scratch off win. She immediately called her mother to share the good fortune. Once she was sure, the pair drove to North Carolina Lottery headquarters in Raleigh, NC to claim the prize money.
The lucky winner will take home $141,003 after taxes. She plans to use some of her winnings to take her husband and son on a trip of a lifetime – a Disney cruise!
