One lucky Sydney Powerball player has broken the Australian lottery record
A Sydney Powerball player has broken the record for Australia’s biggest individual lottery prize after winning $107 million.
A bigger prize than she first thought
The lucky winner took home the entire Powerball jackpot on January 17th and has decided to remain anonymous. The winner was contacted by Australian lottery officials and initially thought she’d won $107,000.
“I don’t understand what is going on,” the Sydney Powerball player said. The regular player went through a rollercoaster of emotions as the good news was relayed to her.
Shocked and delighted
“I’ve had such a tumultuous day, so I don’t know where I am and what I am doing,” she said. The Powerball winner asked if she was being tricked and if the phone call was real. “Wait – are you telling me I’ve won $107 million? Oh my God!”
The Sydney Powerball player exclaimed that the prize was a huge amount of money she didn’t know how to spend. However, she won’t stop working. “I’m so passionate about my job,” the healthcare professional said.
A new lease of life for 2019
Instead, the money will be shared with family. Some of it will go to charity, while the anonymous winner plans to use it to fulfil some lifelong dreams. “It gives me the chance to go and do the things I’ve always wanted to do,” she said.
On the top of that list is a caravan, which the Sydney woman said she’ll use to travel around the country. “I’m not sure how I will be able to sleep tonight,” she added.
The winning numbers in the January 17 draw were 20, 18, 33, 22, 11, 26 and 4, while the Powerball number was 9.
