Lottery Winner Retires After North Carolina Scratchcard Win
Theodore Duncan was lucky enough to capture $10 million on a North Carolina scratchcard. With his massive win, he has decided to retire and take life easy.
From Mechanics Rags to Riches
The Granville County man had headed out to take his trash to the local landfill. He then decided to pick up the $30 Colossal Cash scratchcard on his way home.
He told ABC 13, that to check the card he uses a unique method. Mr Duncan explained that his policy is to scratch off just the top of each circle to reveal the number. That shows him if he has a match and after that, he scratches off the bottom to discover how much he’s won.
“I won, I won, I won!”
On this lucky card he saw a dollar sign, so knew he had a winner. “I said well at least I won my money back on the ticket.”
“I scratched it off and it was $10 million. I just said–I looked at myself and said, ‘I won. I won. I won,'” said the shocked winner.
Not every lottery winner retires but after 37 years working, 52-year-old Theodore’s working days are officially over. He loved working as a mechanic but now feels his job can go to someone who needs a job.
The lucky winner has opted to receive his winnings as a one-off payment of $4.6 million after taxes. He already has plenty of plans on how to spend his Colossal Cash windfall.
A new home with a pool is top of his shopping list. Also planned are some gifts for his children, grandchildren and brothers.
However, the scratchcard winner also wants to help his local church. He announced that a donation of $100,000 will be going to St Jude’s.
