EUROMILLIONS WINNERS’ PLANS FOR DREAM HOME

Luxury expenses for most lottery winners include a smart new house, a top of the range car and an expensive holiday. EuroMillions winners Matt and Casey Topham are no different it would seem. The recently married couple won £45 million on EuroMillions just over a year ago in February2012.

Items on their lotto shopping list so far have included a £100,000 Jaguar XKR-S, Matt’s stag do in Amsterdam and holidays to Spain and New York. They also paid off Matt’s father’s mortgage and gave a friend £1.3 million. Where they differ from average lottery winners is with their plans to build a dream home instead of buying an existing mansion. Following a year of media attention and a break in at their ex-council house home in Stapleford, Nottingham, the Tophams have chosen to design and build their luxury new pad for the tidy sum of £5 million.

So what does a £5m build get you? Well, if planning permission is granted the couple will gain maximum privacy in a palatial home 16 times larger than an average three-bed house. With plenty of EuroMillions cash to play with, the new build will feature luxury facilities including a cinema, snooker room, whirlpool bath and swimming pool. There are also plans for an underground garage to accommodate 10 cars. Here’s what the Tophams had to say about their plans: "Must-haves included five bedrooms, a dramatic sweeping staircase, a large garage and a grotto-style pool. We also spent a lot of time debating with the architect how the rooms would be used, and the split between open plan and entertaining spaces versus cosy, snug rooms. We were very clear we didn't want to live in a glass box. At the very top of our wish list was a strong desire to keep the design contemporary yet familiar, and flexible enough to accommodate a future family."
