EUROMILLIONS WINNER HELPING LOCAL COMMUNITY
The UK’s biggest EuroMillions lottery winner has gone public long time after winning a massive £148 million in the EuroMillions draw in August 2012.
Gillian Bayford and her husband were the lucky ticket holders who won the entire EuroMillions jackpot back in August 2012, when they were struggling and saving in order to give both of their children the birthday parties they wanted in the local children’s play centre, Cheeky Chimps.
Since winning the lottery, the family have been inundated with letters from strangers asking for money for various causes, and Gillian insists that they have taken the time to read each and every one of them, deciding which causes merited a donation from their lottery prize. The couple, who previously owned a music shop in Haverhill, Cambridgeshire, found that people were camping outside their shop every day, making trade increasingly difficult, and so the European lottery winners had shut their business in December 2012.
Other than that, Gillian is adamant that their lives haven’t changed drastically since their lottery jackpot win and, other than moving to a larger house, the rest of their lives have stayed much the same, and they don’t plan to change much else.
Except, however, for their latest business venture: the Cheeky Chimps children’s play barn that the Bayfords had struggled to afford to hire for their children’s birthdays prior to their EuroMillions win closed its doors in February 2013, and the Bayfords have now bought it and reopened it as Rascals play barn.
Despite not needing to work another day in her life, lottery winner Gillian knows that the play barn is an important part of the local community and wanted to ensure that it continued to live on for her children and those of her friends. Gillian will run the play barn together with her friend Cindy Smith, and will ensure that she is as hands on as possible.
