It’s an exciting time to be playing EuroMillions as the jackpot for the Friday October 24th draw has reached the maximum €190million (£150m). If that wasn’t enough, next week sees the first ever ‘Mega Fridays’ draw with not just cash to be won but holidays too.
If a single player from the UK were to win the EuroMillions jackpot this evening, they’d find themselves ranked joint 607th in the 2014 Sunday Times List. That’d put them level with Eric Clapton and Sir Tim Rice. It’s the first time since 2012 that the maximum €190million jackpot has been reached, when Adrian and Gillian Bayford won the jackpot in the draw held on August 10th. At the time that was only worth £148.656m. The largest amount won by a player from the UK was the £161.653m (€185million) won by Colin and Chris Weir from Largs, near Glasgow, on June 23rd, 2013.
So this week promises to be a spectacular one for EuroMillions but next week is going to be even bigger for UK players. Friday October 31st sees the beginning of a new game that gives players of the UK version of the game more ways of winning great prizes, similar to the ‘Millionaire Raffle’ and the French ‘My Million’.The last Friday of each month is going to become ‘Mega Fridays’ with new, luxury prizes on offer in addition to the cash prizes. A UK National Lottery spokesman said that next week “promises to be hugely exciting for EuroMillions players here in the UK” with the chance to win “life changing prizes.”
The first draw will see players having the chance to win one of 25 guaranteed £1m prizes. This includes a private getaway for themselves and seven friends on the stunning Makepeace Island of Australia’s Gold Coast.
It could also be a week where you don’t have to match the five main numbers and the two lucky stars to become a millionaire. The EuroMillions jackpot has a cap of €190m, thereforef no one wins the jackpot this Friday the jackpot figure stays the same but additional prize money filters down to the next prize-winning tier. In the past this has led to some big wins for players who won the second-tier prize with 11 players each winning €2.4 million in July 2011.
