Marathon Man Aims to Mend Leak with €388,375 Irish Lotto Winnings

Lottery24 – Marathon Man will repair a water leak with Irish Lotto winningsSeamus Cawley from Rathkeale in Co Limerick, Ireland is one of the ten-strong syndicate that won a €3.88 million Irish Lotto jackpot on November 14. He plans on using his winnings to fulfil a dream and sort out a leak in his house.

Cawley, 57, is known to most people as ‘Marathon Man’. He’s run around 50 marathons and in 1985 won a national marathon title, but says this win is “just as sweet.”

It takes a fair time to run a marathon and it seems it can also take a long time to tell your wife about a big lottery win. Seamus said that it took him three hours to break the news to Marion who told him to “shut up and stop cursing.” He’s the latest big winner in Ireland after a lucky couple won €5.3m playing the Irish Lotto.

The lucky player shares the Irish Lotto win with nine of his friends and they all work at the Kerry Group Cheese Strings Production line in Charleville in Co Cork. Seamus plans on using part of his €388,375.60 winnings to sort out the annoying leak at home that Irish Water refused to pay for. Now he doesn’t need their help and can afford to get it fixed himself.

The 57-year-old, who says his lottery loving father was buried with a lottery ticket, has several other ideas on how to spend his Irish Lotto winnings. These include a holiday and paying his daughter’s college fees. That’s what Bill Aliff from Virginia, USA, did after his $2m Powerball win.

His Irish Lotto win will allow him to finally run the Los Angeles Marathon. Also heading to America are a pair of Irish sisters who recently won the National Lottery’s Bigger Better Lotto Dream Holiday competition.

Other winners plan on using their windfall to pay mortgages just like the Canadian couple who won a $1m Lotto Max prize. Other plans include spoiling their grandchildren, while another is about to become a father. American Constance Carpentino from Massachusetts said she’d give her grandchildren a fantastic Christmas after her $1m Diamond Millionaire scratchcard win.
