A group of four co-workers from Calgary in western Canada have finally come forward to claim a Lotto Max prize won last month.

The three women and one man, who did not reveal to lottery officials where exactly they work, will share a Lotto Max Maxmillions prize worth $1 million, meaning that each of them will take home $250,000. Valerie Pinard, Timothy Jones, Edith Sokolowski, and Phyllis Dicks, were all calm as they claimed their prize last week, despite the fact that they’ve been in disbelief since winning on February 3rd, just like Mary D’Clute, also from Calgary, who was shocked after her MaxMillions win.

Late last year a group of co-workers from Kent in the UK shared a £1 million UK Lotto prize, and now the Lotto Max playing group revealed that it was Ms Pinard who had the job of buying and checking the tickets, and she scanned this particular draw’s tickets the morning after the February 3rd draw took place. She told lottery officials that as soon as she scanned the ticket and saw that they’d won the $1 million prize, she made sure to contact the rest of the group to let them know the good news.

“We met up later that day, because no one could believe it,” Ms Pinard said, explaining that the group had been in disbelief ever since. Hopefully that will change now that they have the money in their accounts though, with each member of the syndicate planning to do something similar with their share of the prize. One of the most notable recent Canadian lottery wins was a couple from British Columbia who let their children find out about their multi-million-dollar Lotto 649 win on the news.

“I don’t think any of us want to do anything crazy,” the group spokesperson told Lotto Max officials. “It helps take some of the pressure off. Winning the lottery is a dream come true!” Ms Pinard said that she plans to pay off her mortgage, plus buy a new truck just like a Toronto Lotto Max winner planned to, while other members of the group hope to travel, make payments on their houses and towards bills and debts. Another recent Calgary Lotto 649 winner planned to put his winnings towards his retirement.
