Alberta couple win Lotto Max prize while road tripping across country

A couple from Alberta in Canada have won a huge Lotto Max prize in Ontario, part way along their road trip across the country to visit family.Donald and Pearl Dale, who are from Sylvan Lake, Alberta, were driving to Ottawa, Ontario, to visit family when they decided to buy a Lotto max ticket on a whim, just like a Michigan man who stopped for gas and also happened to buy a Mega Millions ticket worth $1 million. “We decided that when we crossed the border into the Province (Ontario) that we would buy a ticket,” Mr Dale told Lotto Max officials in Toronto. A Texan who won a $177 million Mega Millions jackpot stopped during a long drive to buy his winning ticket.The couple purchased a ticket for the Lotto Max drawing on September 8th from the Pass Lake Truck Stop, just across the provincial border, and didn’t think much about the ticket until the day after the draw took place, when they got it checked at a lottery retailer in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. “I had no idea that the ticket was a big winner when I handed it to the cashier,” Mr Dale told lottery officials of the $1 million ticket. A recent Ontario Lotto Max winner said that he “cried like a baby” after finding out he was $1 million richer.He continued: “The terminal shut down after it was scanned and when I saw all the zeroes, we knew that this was something special.” The pair then diverted their route towards the Canadian capital of Canada to call in at Toronto and attend Ontario Lottery and Gaming headquarters and claim their prize. Another recent Alberta lottery winner was Rommel Nerona from Edmonton, who won $1 million on the Canadian Lotto 649.The Lotto Max winners now plan to put some of their $1 million Lotto Max prize into an investment, but the travellers’ main priority is to fulfil some of their other dream destinations. “Hawaii, Mexico, California, a Panama riverboat cruise… the list is long,” Mr Dale said of their plans.
