$180,000 HIT 5 WINNER IS HEADING FOR BROADWAY
It might be ‘Les Miserables’ or perhaps ‘Hello Dolly,’ but a $180,000 Hit 5 winner from Des Moines in Washington, USA, is off to New York City to see a top musical. However, his win also helps his family out after a tough year.
Thanksgiving is a time to celebrate in the USA and it was an extra special one this year for Thomas Escajeda. Earlier that day he discovered that he’d won $180,000 in the November 22 Hit 5 draw. That was half the jackpot with the other half of the Hit 5 jackpot being won by a man from Pasco.
It’s the latest big win in the state of Washington, USA. Michael Burkett was elated when he won a $157m Mega Millions jackpot. Also celebrating was a man from Oak Harbour who was lucky enough to win $1m playing Mega Millions.
The lucky Hit 5 winner from Des Moines told his family the fantastic news of their big win as they sat down for their Thanksgiving meal making it even more special an occasion. With Christmas just around the corner, his children have already given him their Christmas wish list, so they’ll have a great time this month.
It’ not been an easy time for the family in the past year or so. His daughter had surgery last year at Children’s Hospital and even with insurance, there were still a lot of medical bills to pay. Escajeda said. “Everyone at Children’s, from the parking attendants to the people selling candy in the cafeteria, are all wonderful. We’re thankful my daughter is well now, and we’ll be able to have a bigger holiday than anticipated.”
The Hit 5 player has also decided to use some of his winnings to pay off some bills. Then there’s a big treat planned for his wife. She absolutely adores musical theatre, so the couple will be taking a trip to New York City to see a top musical on Broadway.
The other winner of the $180,000 Hit 5 jackpot plans to use some of his winnings to help improve the restaurant that they recently opened. Ricky Knudsen from California, USA, won a $180m Mega Millions jackpot prize and used some of his winnings to open a steakhouse. Former American College Basketball star Michael Graham also planned to open a restaurant after winning $1m playing Powerball.
