NEW JERSEY WOMAN WINS $5MILLION ON MISTAKEN SCRATCH CARD TICKET

A woman from New Jersey has won a huge top prize on a scratch card ticket which she purchased by mistake after being handed the wrong one by a cashier.

Oksana Zaharov, a mother of two from New Jersey was shopping in Manhattan, New York, and visited a convenience store and decided to buy a scratch card ticket on a whim. Despite choosing a specific lottery ticket, the cashier in the store handed Ms Zaharov a ‘Set for Life’ scratch card instead, one which cost more than she’d wanted to spend. A car salesman from Harlow in England bought the wrong lottery ticket and ended up with a EuroMillions prize of over £50,000.

“When the clerk handed me the wrong scratch card I felt bad, so I decided to just go ahead and buy it,” the New York Lottery winner told officials. A lottery syndicate from Maryland bought tickets for the wrong game and ended up winning $50,000 on the Bonus Match 5. The 45-year-old then took the scratch card home and forgot about it for a while, “I actually used the ticket as a bookmark for a couple weeks before I decided to scratch it,” she said.

Ms Zaharov, from Edgewater, New Jersey, said that once she did actually get around scratching the ticket, she was convinced it was a prank. Another New York Set for Life winner said he felt very lucky after winning $5 million.“I never win anything,” she told New York lottery officials. “I was sure the ticket was fake. It wasn’t until I brought it into the office that I knew it was for real. A Maryland lottery player was convinced her scratch card was a fake when it won $50,000.

Now, the scratch off winner will take her $5 million across the next 20 years, and after that she will receive $172,068 per year for the rest of her life. She plans to take her family on a deserved vacation to the Bahamas as well as fund both of her children through college. Another recent New Jersey lottery winner celebrated his Mega Millions prize at McDonald’s and Wendy’s.
