$1M LOTTO 6/49 WIN TO HELP REBUILD HOME
The past few years have been difficult for Bill Pendergast from Fort McMurray in Alberta, Canada. Wildfires severely damaged his home but now he can complete its renovation after winning $1m playing the February 3 Lotto 6/49 draw.
His winning Lotto 6/49 ticket was purchased from Irvings in the Goulds neighbourhood of Newfoundland, while he was visiting his ailing father. Recently a priest from Florida, USA, was visiting relatives in Ireland when winning a €500,000 EuroMillions Plus windfall.
Bill’s father asked him to stop on his way back to the hospital and get him a cold 7 Up. While there, he didn’t just get the drink but bought a Lotto 6/49 ticket too. He didn’t check it until his aunt told him of a big local winner. Wondering if he might be the lucky player, Pendergast went to the store to get his Lotto 6/49 ticket checked.
It turned out his Lotto 6/49 ticket was indeed the big winner. He immediately contacted his wife, Carrie, who was back in Fort McMurray. Not for long though, as she straightaway booked a flight to see her husband.
It’s the latest big win for a player from Alberta. Derek Maher was celebrating after he won a $5m Lotto 6/49 prize. Mary D’Clute also had lottery luck winning $1m playing the Lotto Max draw.
“It’s pretty awesome looking at the bank account with all those zeros,” said the lucky Lotto 6/49 winner when collecting his winnings last Friday. ‘I can come home,’ he added.
He already has plenty of plans on how to spend his Lotto 6/49 winnings. Bill wants to buy his dream car which is a Mustang. It was a Mercedes that Rita Dixon from New York dreamed of after her $5m win playing the $5 Million Fortune scratch card game.
A family holiday is also on the agenda, he and Carrie have five boys and they’re now sorting out passports. In Scotland, Anita Reid had to get her passport sorted out before going to New York after a £186,128.50 EuroMillions win.
The win will allow Bill to retire a bit earlier than planned but his key target is to get his home back in order. “In the wildfire, May 2016, we had a total and complete loss, so this puts us one step closer to getting that all finished,” said Pendergast. He hopes that works will be finished in the next two to four months.
