A woman from Indiana in the USA has claimed a huge $77,777 lottery prize not long after beating cancer and can now relax.

Marilyn Dunlap claimed her Hoosier Lottery scratch card prize earlier this week and said that it was a good day not only because she’d just won $77,777, but it was also another day that she’d beaten cancer. The former school bus driver loved her job but left it in order to focus on her cancer treatment, and now the scratch card prize will enable her to retire the way she wanted to. A taxi driver from England was delighted that he was finally able to retire after winning £24.43 million on the UK Lotto, while a Californian who took home $555,555 on the Power 5 lottery was about to retire after winning her top prize.

On June 7th, Mrs Dunlap’s husband bought a 7 Scratch Card, and after he scratched it off and revealed the $77,777 lottery prize, he gave it to his wife and said it was all hers. “Because he loves me,” Mrs Dunlap said when questioned about her husband’s generosity. Earlier this year we told you about a man from Connecticut who was gifted a winning lottery ticket by his employees and went on to win $1 million.

The Indiana woman, who lives in Kokomo, told Hoosier Lottery officials that the scratch card jackpot will enable her to retire better than she would have otherwise, as she’ll be able to pay off the debt owed on her car and some other bills. She also will be able to put some of the money towards paying for a trip that she is planning to California with her grandson, who has just graduated from college. Other Indiana lottery winners have included Michael Stephens, who won $5,000 a month for 25 years on a Set for Life scratch card, and Fred Bedford who won $50,000 on the Powerball lottery.

The winning scratch card was purchased from a Wells Auto Express gas station on Dixon Road in Kokomo and was the penultimate $77,777 top prize on offer on the ‘7 Scratch Card’. Ms Dunlap smiled as she clutched her Hoosier Lottery cheque, grinning from ear to ear.
