The mother of a £100,000 National Lottery Magenta scratchcard prize has ever reason to celebrate. She’s delighted for her son, David Godfrey from Swansea, Wales and even better he’s taking her on holiday to New York.

25-year-old David was due to be going to bingo on August 1, but a few people cancelled so instead he took a leisurely walk along the seafront with his friend Laura Garmey and her daughter. On the way back, Laura’s daughter wanted a drink, so they went to the Co-op in the Marina. He wasn’t planning on getting anything for himself but then thought “I’ll buy a scratchcard.  In the USA, Tayeb Souami from New Jersey was only supposed to be returning some orange juice but ended up buying a $315.3m winning Powerball ticket.

Mr Godfrey wasn’t sure which one to get and bought the cheapest one. It turned out to be a great decision because as he scratched the National Lottery Magenta scratchcard, it revealed the £100,000 win.

It’s the latest big win in Wales after Jordon Morgan won £70,000 on a National Lottery Red Hot 7’s Doubler scratchcard. Also celebrating was £1m EuroMillions winner Nigel Willetts.  Another recent winner from Wales was Richard Davies who also won £1m playing EuroMillions.

“I thought ‘oh my God, I think I’ve won’. I genuinely thought I was going to wake up and it was all going to be a dream,” said the shocked National Lottery Magenta scratchcard winner.

He now plans on using his winnings to help buy his first house. He’s a manager of a local Argos store and says he’ll be using his work discount to save money on the furnishings for his new home.  Maureen and Jim Emerton from England still look for bargains even after their £4.5m UK Lotto jackpot win.  The lucky winner described his National Lottery Magenta scratchcard win as like “having a pay rise every month.”

Also planned is to pay off his car and credit card and a special treat for his mother Michelle Rand who he still lives with.  As a big thank you to her David wants to take her on a holiday to New York and added “We’re going to fly on a posh airline.”

The National Lottery Magenta scratchcard winner’s mother is “absolutely delighted” for her son and said: “”He is the best son ever and really deserves it.”
