Winners of $80m Australian Powerball Jackpot Revealed
Just four days after an $80m Australian Powerball jackpot was won in the draw held on July 9, the massive win has been claimed by a couple from Mornington Peninsula in Dromana, Victoria.
The win is the joint third highest in the history of the Australian Powerball draw and the highest ever win in Victoria. The winning ticket wasn’t purchased on a Tatts Card. If it had been, then lottery officials would have known who the winner was and contacted them with the incredible news. Instead, they had to wait for the lucky winners to come forward and it didn’t take too long.
Winning such a prize has been a massive shock for the couple who have asked to remain anonymous. The winning woman said that she and her husband aren’t regular players, but Australian Powerball is their favourite one to buy tickets for.
A couple of tickets were purchased for the July 9 Australian Powerball draw. As the ‘shaky’ winner said,” You can only try, you’ve got to be in it to win it.” When they do play, she checks the results the same night but took a bit longer this time. Her husband was sitting with her when on Sunday evening she decided to see if their tickets had won anything.
The first hadn’t won anything but the second had images of confetti. “I said ‘I think I’ve won something.’” And asked other members of her family to also scan the ticket. The amazing truth was then discovered. “We were stunned, excited, in disbelief, surreal, just everything! I won’t forget that moment.” Not wanting to lose the ticket, she even took it to bed with her that night.
Their winning ticket was bought from Dromana Authorised News agency, 177 Point Nepean Road, Dromana. Its owner Paul Fancett said the previous largest winning ticket sold by them was $1m. so “this certainly blows that out of the water,” he commented. The winning numbers in the Australian Powerball draw were: 02-21-26-28-31-32-33 and the Powerball 12.
No more Worries about Money
The couple say they have plenty of ideas on how to spend their windfall. They include buying a new home and going on holidays. However, they want to get through the current health crisis before putting those spending plans into action. “There’s lots to worry about at the moment, but we don’t need to worry about money any more,” she said with a smile on her face.
