Wrong Scratch Card Wins Michigan Man $2 million
We all need a bit of luck to win a big prize but a man from Michigan in the USA must have used up all of his in one go. He won a $2 million scratch card prize totally by mistake.
The scratch off winner, who has asked to remain anonymous, stopped off at a gas station in the Detroit suburb, Eastpointe. It wasn’t to fill up his tank. He needed change so that he could put some air into his wife’s truck.
Keep that Ticket
To get that change, he decided to purchase a $10 Lucky 7 ticket. However, the clerk gave him a $20 scratch card one by mistake. “He offered to exchange it for me, but something told me to keep it,” said the lucky winner. “I am sure glad I did!” he declared.
The 57-year-old has decided that he will accept his scratch off winnings as a one-off lump sum payment. That means he will receive $1.3 million. He wants to use his winnings to purchase a new house. The rest of his big win will be saved.
More Amazing Lottery Mistakes
It’s by no means the first time that a player has accidentally become a lottery millionaire. In Australia last year, a man from Victoria won $46.6m in an Oz Lotto draw. He accidentally used the same numbers on two tickets, and both won him $23.3m.
Some mistakes are thankfully avoided. Shaheen Rashid from Scotland was disappointed at her numbers not winning anything in a UK Lotto draw. She nearly chucked her ticket away before remembering to look at the Millionaire Raffle and realised the ticket was a winner. She did make one mistake though. Initially she thought her win was just £1000 but it turned out to be £1m.
It’s the latest slice of luck in the state of Michigan. We recently reported how Thomas McIntyre has been lucky enough to win two big Powerball prizes totalling $350,000. Another Michigan player, Mark Clark did much better. He won two $4 million scratch card prizes in the space of three years.
