Partner Moves Out Without Telling About $6.1m Lotto 6/49 Win
Back to news

It’s bad enough when your partner walks out on you. However, Denise Robertson from Chatam in Ontario in Canada, is in a legal battle after her ex-boyfriend Maurice Thibeault moved out without telling her one tiny fact, he’d just won $6.1m in the September 20 Lotto 6/49 draw. The couple had been living together since 2015 and in a legal statement, Robertson told how they both regularly bought lottery tickets and dreamt of winning a big prize. She claims that any winnings would be shared between them but that’s not what happened when the $6.1m Lotto 6/49 prize was won. The day after the Lotto 6/49 draw, she heard that there had been a jackpot winning ticket sold in Chatham and texted Thibeault in the hope he’d purchased a ticket for the draw. The released statement shows an excerpt from that text conversation. In it, he tells her that he purchased a ticket for the Lotto 6/49 draw but it had yet to be checked. They then joked about buying a house if they were the winners just like Helen and Derek Garnett from England after their £1m EuroMillions win.Thibeault later told Denise that their ticket wasn’t a winner but five days after the Lotto 6/49 draw he packed his bags and left their home without telling her. Looking back, she saw some signs that something was going on. He did approximately 15 loads of laundry the night before he left home and didn’t put them back in the drawers and closets. He claims that there was no agreement between the couple re lottery wins and the winning Lotto 6/49 ticket was purchased using a debit card linked to his personal bank account. Some lottery winners quit their jobs, that’s just what Joseph Woods from Minnesota, USA, did after his $1m Powerball win. Not so a man from Cork who won a €257,084 EuroMillions prize and went straight back to work. This Lotto 6/49 winner did quit his job and then tried to claim his winnings. Robertson found out and her lawyers got a court injunction freezing the payout until Ontario’s lottery regulator can determine the rightful winner. Lynn Anne Poirier from Florida, USA, was ordered by a court to pay $291,000 of her 2007 $1m Powerball win to her ex-boyfriend. In the USA, Linza Ford from New York won a court battle with her mother over a $1m New York Lottery win.Try your luck on the lottery game and play online at
