John Edmond from Port Seton in Scotland got his dates mixed up, but he’s not complaining because he ended up winning £1m in the June 26 EuroMillions Mega Friday draw.

Even though he’s now a lottery millionaire, the 32-year-old aims to carry on working for Midlothian Roofing Services, at least until “we get our heads around everything that has happened.” Edmond has worked for them as a roofer since he was 16. His wife, Amanda, 31, has already quit her job as a customer advisor at BBQ.

He does have one request for his boss, because part of his EuroMillions win was a luxury two week holiday in Bali, Thailand or the Maldives. The EuroMillions winner joked, “here’s hoping he will let me have time off for the holiday.” In October George Kingdom also won a luxury holiday in the EuroMillions Mega Friday draw but didn’t quit his job.

John purchased his winning EuroMillions tickets from the McColl’s store in Dalkeith but he’d actually wanted a UK Lotto ticket for the June 24 draw. He got his dates mixed up, missed that draw, got one for the EuroMillions Mega Friday draw instead and the rest is history.

The couple are the latest £1m EuroMillions winners in Scotland after an Ayrshire syndicate won on the same lottery in March and Georgie Rhodick received a £1m lottery prize in May.
The lucky winner admits that when he realized the size of his EuroMillions win, neither he or his wife could get to sleep that evening. Now they’re busy planning their “private pool escape” dream holiday, if of course John can get the time off to enjoy it.

When Trish and Craig Tuft won a £1m EuroMillions prize in April, they announced they wanted to move to a larger home with a big garden. That’s also the plan for John and Amanda, because at present their two daughters have to share a room in their two-bedroom home. A new car to replace their current Nissan Qashqai is also on their shopping list. Earlier in June we told you how a Welsh couple used their £1m EuroMillions win to get a new Audi Q5.
