Contact Lenses Workers See Happier Future after €2,578,134 Irish Lotto Win

Lottery24 – Syndicate win €2.5m on the Irish LottoA group of workers from a contact lenses company in Waterford City in Ireland can see a happier future after a €2,578,134 Irish Lotto win in the draw held on March 12.

The syndicate from Bausch and Lomb purchased their winning ticket from the Spar at Ferrybank in Waterford City on 12 March. Their winning numbers were: 09-18-23-27-31-38 and the Bonus Number 30.

The big win has certainly been overdue as they have been playing for nearly 16 years and always using the same numbers. Their previous biggest win was €1,300. A family from Galway in Ireland won a €500,000 Irish Lotto Plus 1 prize after changing their numbers. In England Tom and Brenda Nugent played the same numbers for years and eventually won a £1m EuroMillions prize.

Group organiser Alan Smith checked the Irish Lotto results on the night of the draw and a message came up saying ‘Congratulations, please contact us!’ He had no idea they’d won the jackpot and checked the winning line a couple of times but refused to believe it was a jackpot winner.

He then rang his wife who had been attending a hurling match and asked “Where are you? Get home fast, we’re after winning the Lotto.”

The winners are all aged between 37 and 50 and some no longer work at the factory. Two of the members, John Walsh and Louise Power are engaged. Between them the syndicate have 16 children with another on the way.”We’re the dirty dozen because we’re now all stinking rich,” joked Derek Burke.

The lucky syndicate winners will each receive just over €214,000, however they don’t intend quitting their jobs. In England, Philip Dunning did just that right after winning £7.86m playing UK Lotto.

Some of their Irish Lotto winnings will go on paying off mortgages. That’s just what another Irish syndicate did last year after their €10.65m Irish Lotto jackpot win.

Other plans include getting new cars, revamping houses, going on holidays and setting up college funds. Bill Aliff from Virginia, USA, paid for his daughter’s college expenses after his $2m Powerball win.
