An Irishman from Dundalk has described his EuroMillions win as a “dream come true” as he took home €500,000.

The lucky father, from Louth in Co Dundalk, Ireland, the same place as Marion Gorham, a mother of ten children who won big on the Irish Lotto earlier this year, won his €500,000 playing the EuroMillions on the National Lottery app, and he collected his prize at lottery headquarters in Dublin with his wife and young family by his side. The lottery winner said that he has plenty of plans for his EuroMillions prize, and that it couldn’t have come at a better time.

“This is a dream come true for us,” the lucky winner told National Lottery officials, just as a man from Limerick described his €105,541 win on the EuroMillions. “The win means that we can buy our own home and be mortgage free for the rest of our lives.” The EuroMillions winner said that the family have recently been looking at houses they may be able to buy, but as prices have increased, their likelihood of being able to put any offers in has decreased. “But all that changes today!” A group of workmates from Dublin described themselves a the “dream team” after winning big on the EuroMillions earlier this year.

Asked by National Lottery officials about his ticket purchasing story, the lucky man said that he was alerted via email that he had won something on his ticket, but that it took a while to convince his family that they’d won. “It’s been an absolutely surreal couple of days and I’m still coming to terms with the shock,” he said. A Lotto Max winner from Ontario in Canada said that he was still in shock a month after winning $175,000.

The EuroMillions winner said that it took him an entire weekend to convince his wife that he wasn’t playing a trick on her. The couple planned to take their €500,000 cheque home to celebrate before planning the rest of their lives, “We have a special bottle of champagne in the fridge waiting for us at home, so we’ll enjoy a very quiet celebration before we officially start our house hunt,” the EuroMillions winner said. A couple from Duleek in Co Meath was finally able to buy their first home after a big Irish Lotto win put an end to their saving struggles.
