Mega Millions winning ticket sold in Detroit
The Mega Millions winner who won big on the most unlucky day of the year has been revealed to have purchased their ticket in Detroit, as the world waits to find out who this lucky person is.
As we told you over the weekend, the Mega Millions jackpot was worth $66 million on Friday 13th June, and many lottery players may have been forgiven for expecting the jackpot to go without a winner on the day that superstitions state as the most unlucky day of the year. However it seems that Friday 13th is in fact a lucky day for those in Michigan, and in Detroit in particular.
The winning ticket was sold at a gas station at the corner of Market Street and Gratiot Avenue in Mount Clemens, metro Detroit in the lead up to the Friday evening lottery draw. The winning ticket matched numbers 7, 38, 46, 49 and 56 as well as the Mega Ball of 1 to claim the $66 million jackpot.
The winner, when he or she comes forward, now has a choice between taking their fortune in annuity payments, which will grant them the full $66 million over a period of several years, or to take the cash pay-out option. Should the winner choose to take a pay-out they will be worth an estimated $37.9 million once their ticket has been verified.
The Friday 13th win is the sixth Mega Millions jackpot won this year following previous wins in Tennessee, Florida and Maryland, New York, California, and Pennsylvania. The largest jackpot so far this year was won in March and $414 million was split between winners in Florida and Maryland.
This is also not the first Friday 13th jackpot to have been won in Michigan, as the state has previously claimed two jackpot wins on the unlucky date, one in 2008 and the other in 2011. The only other state to have done so was New York, where a winner claimed a Friday 13th prize in March 2009.
The Mega Millions jackpot will now revert back to its starting value of $15 million for the next drawing on Tuesday, June 17th. Give yourself a chance of winning by playing with Lottery24.com.
