Winning Powerball Ticket Claimed One Day Before Expiry Date
Lottery winnings aren’t always immediately claimed, and some players take weeks or months to come forward. Karen Moore from Missouri, USA, discovered her $50,000 winning Powerball ticket in her car, just a day before it was due to expire.
The St Peters resident had purchased a ticket for the Powerball draw held on October 6, 2018. The numbers drawn out were 01-22-27-53-67 and the Powerball 15. The Missouri ticket managed to match four of the five main numbers winning $50,000.
What’s in the Glove Compartment?
Just a day before it was due to expire, Karen looked in the glove compartment of her vehicle. Rather than finding some gloves, she discovered unchecked Powerball tickets. In the UK, Andrew Clark also had a pleasant discovery in his vehicle, when six weeks after the draw, he found his ticket that had won a £71m EuroMillions jackpot.
Wondering if any were a winning Powerball ticket, Mrs Moore took them to be scanned and one came up with the message ‘Claim At Lottery.’ Not knowing what that meant, she contacted her husband, Joseph, who said it must have won more than $600. He quickly checked the October 6 results and was “just stared at the screen in disbelief” when discovering it had won $50,000.
Rush to Claim Prize
A quick mathematical calculation revealed it was 179 days since the draw. He rushed to the lottery office and said to officials, “Please tell me this is still good” and thankfully he was in time and the winning Powerball ticket hadn’t expired. Now he and his wife are planning to use their lottery winnings to go on holiday.
Charles Dudley from Connecticut, USA, had a similar experience. He was looking through his wallet and amazingly discovered a $1m winning Powerball ticket. His discovery came just 23 days before it would have become an unclaimed winning ticket.
